Treatment Approach

What we do in Orthopedic Physical Therapy

Movement Assessment

Identifying the specific movement patterns or strength deficits driving your symptoms.

Manual Therapy

Joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, and myofascial release to restore normal mobility.

Therapeutic Exercise

Targeted strengthening, stretching, and motor control exercises matched to your specific deficits.

Modalities (Selective Use)

Heat, ice, electrical stimulation, or ultrasound when there's clear indication; we don't pad sessions with passive modalities.

Activity & Ergonomic Education

Patient education on the activities or postures that drive symptoms and how to modify them.

What to Expect

Your visit, step by step

01

Comprehensive Evaluation

60-minute first visit including history, full body movement assessment, and a clear plan you understand.

02

Active Treatment

Most sessions blend manual therapy with progressive exercise. We avoid passive modalities unless clinically indicated.

03

Independence

The goal is teaching you what your body needs so you don't need us forever. Most patients graduate within 6–12 visits.

Typical Timeline

Most musculoskeletal injuries resolve in 4–8 weeks of structured PT. Chronic conditions or significant deconditioning may take 8–16 weeks.

Orthopedic Physical Therapy FAQs

How quickly will I feel better?

Most patients notice improvement in 2–3 visits. Significant pain relief and functional improvement typically take 4–6 weeks. Stubborn chronic conditions may take longer; we set clear benchmarks and re-assess every 4 weeks.

Do I need a physician referral?

Texas allows direct access to PT for evaluation and treatment. Some insurance plans require a physician referral for coverage; we verify your benefits before your first visit and can guide you to a referring physician if needed.

Will you do exercises with me or just give me a list?

Active treatment under therapist supervision is core to how we work. Home programs are part of recovery, but we coach you through them in-clinic until your form is correct.

Do you treat arthritis without surgery?

Yes. Most arthritis is well-managed with PT, activity modification, and targeted strengthening. We coordinate with the Axis Orthopedic team if surgical evaluation becomes appropriate.

Can I keep working or training during PT?

In most cases, yes — we modify rather than eliminate. Total rest is rarely the answer; targeted modification while continuing to load tolerated movement is usually faster healing.

What conditions do you NOT treat?

We don't treat acute fractures (those go to the orthopedic surgeon first), open wounds, post-acute infections, or conditions that require medical clearance we don't have. We refer back to physicians when something is outside PT scope.
