Kinesiology Taping

Strategic elastic tape that supports recovery without restricting movement.

Kinesiology tape (k-tape) is an elastic therapeutic tape applied in specific patterns to support injured tissues, reduce swelling, modulate pain, and provide proprioceptive feedback during movement. It's an adjunct to active treatment — not a substitute.

What We Treat

Conditions addressed by Kinesiology Taping

Joint and muscle support during recovery
Acute and chronic swelling
Pain reduction (back, knee, shoulder)
Athletic injury support
Postural cueing
Lymphedema and post-surgical edema (with appropriate technique)

Treatment Approach

What we do in Kinesiology Taping

Muscle Facilitation Taping

Patterns that cue weak or inhibited muscles to fire more reliably.

Muscle Inhibition Taping

Patterns that reduce overactive muscle tone or guarding.

Lymphatic Taping

Fan-pattern applications that promote lymphatic drainage and reduce swelling.

Mechanical Correction Taping

Patterns that gently correct joint or postural alignment during movement.

What to Expect

Your visit, step by step

01

Assessment

Determining whether taping is the right adjunct for your specific issue.

02

Application

5–10 minutes to apply. Tape stays on for 3–5 days, including showers.

03

Combined Approach

Taping always pairs with the active treatment that addresses the underlying issue.

Typical Timeline

Tape is an adjunct, not a primary treatment. Effectiveness depends on the underlying condition and the active rehab program it's paired with.

Kinesiology Taping FAQs

How long does the tape stay on?

Typically 3–5 days. It's water-resistant — you can shower and even swim with it. We replace it during your next session if needed.

Is k-tape just placebo?

Evidence is mixed. Strong evidence for some applications (post-surgical edema reduction, postural cueing); weaker for others (general pain relief). We use it where evidence supports it and don't oversell it.

Does it work for athletes?

Athletes often report subjective benefits — improved confidence, reduced perceived effort, reduced pain. Whether the effect is mechanical, proprioceptive, or placebo, the impact on performance can be real.

Can I learn to apply it myself?

Yes — for simple patterns. We teach patients self-taping techniques for common issues so they can maintain the benefit between visits.
